Darling The New Butcher?

Posted by JozMan on July 28, 2010 at 5:53 AM Comments comments (1)

Eight or so months ago all we heard of was who will be pick one Darling Or Swallow but now as the draft nears you never hear Darlings name in the same sentence as the top 3 picks of this years draft. Which reminds me a lot of John Butcher this time last year. Jack is a dead eye shot at goal and an elite mark. Last year Darling looked good enough to be a top ten pick in the 2009 draft after a stellar season as an underage player in the WA U18 premiership team. 2010 didn’t start the way he would have wanted with him undergoing ankle surgery and losing the weight a key forward needs have.

Personally I don’t think his were he wants to be right now. If he had been born 46 days earlier theirs a huge chance he would be up in Gold Coast living the dream "It's been pretty frustrating, I must admit, I look at all the photos the Gold Coast boys put on Facebook, they ring to tell me all the things they've been doing and I just think, 'Oh … it sounds so good', and it makes me wish I could be up there too, doing what I love every single day of the week and just being a part of it" Jack said."

I think its fair to say Darling has had a poor year to his standards and honestly I’m not sure why but what ever it is it will cause him to do the same as Butcher come D Day. I think if Gold Coast heard what he said they would be extremely interested and with so many picks there would be a good chance of him "Living the dream" next year. His awaked height of 190cm wont help his chances so he better pray to grow at least two centimetres. Personally I think he will go between pick 5 and 15 but only time will tell.

Draft is Ruined by the AFL?

Posted by Dave The Man on July 27, 2010 at 8:17 AM Comments comments (2)

There are 2 new teams entering the AFL over the next 2 years (Gold Coast this year and Greater Western Sydney the Year after that). With Gold Coast getting picks 1,2,3,5,7,9 in the 1st Round, it really does ruin the Draft as the majority of the good kids will be drafted to the Gold Coast.

Form Example I give you 6 Players they could Draft:

  1. David Swallow
  2. Harley Bennel
  3. Sam Day
  4. Shaun Atley
  5. Scott Lycett
  6. Josh Caddy

These are 6 players that teams that have struggled this season cannot have access to. It also means teams that have had a good season won't get access to any good players as their 1st Pick is going to be 18th or later. That just about rules out any chance of getting a good young player. However, if does mean they will have to be more creative with their drafting to find talent.

This just not just in the National Draft, It also effects the Rookie Draft this yearthe GWS have the 1st 8 Picks and then I think Gold Coast have the next 3-5 Picks so the 1st 15 or so Picks in the Rookie Draft go to the 2 Expansion teams. So they be just about nothing there in the Rookie Drafts so teams really have to go out of there way to findTalent to select in the Rookie Draft

It is not only the National Draft affected, it also effects the Rookie Draft. This year the GWS have the 1st 8 picks and then I think Gold Coast have the next 3-5 Picks so the 1st 15 or so Picks in the Rookie Draft go to the 2 Expansion teams. So there will be just about nothing there in the Rookie Drafts. The result is that teams really have to go out of their way to find talent to select in the Rookie Draft. Those Be Good for Experince Players in the State Leagues to possibly get a go in the AFL.

How Far Will Butcher Slip??

Posted by JozMan on October 15, 2009 at 5:53 AM Comments comments (1)

One of the many questions that many people are woundering at the moment is how far will Butcher fall he went from possibly a pick 1 to a possible 2nd pick to melbourne then pick 3 to Richmond but now TIgers said they will be drafting Dustin Martin and i doubt Freo will let Morobito get  past them and i think Kangaroos want a midfielder. I think he is a fairly good chance to go pick 6 to Sydney but the Swans look like they might draft Rohan. He may go to Power with pick 8 or 9 but i doubt he will get past them and if he some how dose he will go to Melbourne at pick 11 or Carlton at pick 12 Or possibley pick 10 to Essendon.

I think his real weakness is his kicking he kicked 1.7  plus two out of full for Mafia in his local league grand final. He is also very tall he can take a very good grab so who ever was to draft him should be a very happy team

I think his team Gippsland Power team mate Koby Stevens may also find him self droping down the pecking but were too im not sure maybe pick 10 to Essendon but if not there his even a chance to slip to the second round.

Who is the second best Midfielder behind Scully?

Posted by JozMan on July 7, 2009 at 10:01 PM Comments comments (0)

I have been thinking of this a lot in recent time, Who is the second best Mid in this years draft? You have Anthony Morobito, Kane Lucas, Jack Trengove, Koby Stevens And Dustin Martin just to name a few. Here is 3 of the best Mids in this years draft.

Anthony Morobito (WA) Morobito has the best body possible for a midfielder these days he run's and carries and kicks long goals. If Melbourne decide to take a Mid with pick 2 i don't think they would take him because Cale Morton is a lot like him and they took him with pick 4 two years ago and you wouldn't think they would use a high draft pick to take the same type of player.

Prediction: 3-5 I think he would go to Fremantle with the first pick.

Kane Lucas (WA) Lucas has really gone under the radar, I don't think he had the championships he wanted, I can still see him been drafted some were around pick 3 and 6 but i cant see him falling any further than pick six he has such a great set of skills witch is so important in modern day football i don't think his the second best midfielder but his in the top 5 Midfielders.

Prediction: 3-6 I think he will be picked up but Fremantle or WCE, most likely West Coast..

Jack Trengove (SA) In my eye's Trengove is now the second best Midfielder, he was always going to be a high draft pick but after his great championships i think his shown alot  and the experts are even saying his a Smokey for pick one. I wouldn't rule out him going to Melbourne with pick 1 i think pick 2 is more realistic But you never know .

Prediction: 2-4 Melbourne may take him with pick 2 if not i doubt he will get past Richmond.

Dustin Martin And Koby Stevens would properly round out the top 5.

If it was up to be and i had pick 2, and if Scully was taken and i had to take a midfielder this would be my order.

1. Jack Trengove

2. Kane Lucas

3. Koby Stevens

4. Anthony Morobito

5. Dustin Martin

I still think if Fremantle finish 2 last and have pick 3 they will take Morobitio but personally i don't rate him very much he has great body size for an AFL midfielder and his run and carry is very good but with all the zone's at the moment a good kick is so important be his kicking is a real let down. Its not up to me though there's still a little under 5 months to go and a lot can happen in between here and then.
